Vlog 9: Abortion is a Woman’s Choice like Rape is a Man’s Choice

AndyOctober 14, 2010

Does choice have anything to do with the morality of an action (abortion for instance)? In this video I discuss a common misconception about abortion; that it is justified for simply being a choice… It’s complicated stuff, but hang on with me!

This is a vlog of my 10 March 2010 blog-post entitled “Abortion is a Woman’s Choice. Just Like Rape is a Man’s Choice“

In upcoming vlogs I’ll be building upon this aspect of the abortion debate, in particular:

  • Pro-Abortion vs. Pro-Choice: Which is the correct term to use?
  • Abortion and Rape

What are your thoughts on Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

"Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person."

I believe that it is wrong for anyone to take away another individual's life/health/property without justification. A simplified (but not absolutely correct) paraphrase of this statement would be "Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person".

I am disgusted by your attitude.

You make me sick to my stomach and if I ever see you in public I am going to verbally abuse you.

Your being a rape apologist, probably. Most women find men trying to claim that rape isn’t that bad, as you do, pretty disgusting.

Could you please point out where I stated that rape isn’t that bad?

Isn’t that your point in this video?

You’re comparing abortion – a life-saving operation that is legal in all civilised countries that respect women as humans – to rape. You’re trying to excuse rape and rapists by elevating rape to the level of abortion.

        It is fairly disgusting.

I must say I am disappointed with your narrow viewpoint on this issue.
      Do you eat eggs?
      Masturbate?
      Consume meat?
      Eat celery?
      Use condoms?
’cause they are, according to you, equal to rape.
In that case, if you do any of these things, and countless others, you are a rapist in your own eyes.

      Let me explain.
We have no way (yet) of knowing if a pre-aborted fetus is intelligent. The same goes for celery, before it is picked. And eggs. And sperm.
We know that an egg, when fertilized and hatched, grows into a chicken. Yet we eat eggs and chicken everyday, in huge amounts.
When you masturbate, you ejaculate hundreds of thousands of possible children into the shower/toilet.
Do you force every man to ejaculate inside a woman to make a baby, so that the sperm is not ‘killed’?
It has just as much right to live as an egg, a chicken, or a fetus, does it not?
So, in your mind, raping a woman to save that sperm, or ‘child’, from death is the morally correct choice?
How dare she consider her livelihood, career and health above that of ‘another’s’ life?

Before you answer by saying these are unequal choices, and masturbating(etc) is different to an abortion, take a look at your previous argument-contradicting yourself will make your stand against abortion even less potent than it currently is.

We do know that pre-aborted fetuses are intelligent.

Eating chicken and chicken products is in a different ballpark from eating humans, and human products.

I’m not even going to bother with your assertion that I hold that rape is acceptable to save sperm.

      Sheeeeeeesh, I don’t know…
